Dr. Jimmy Shaha is a board certified orthopedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine with an emphasis on problems from the shoulder to the fingertips. Originally from the state of Utah, Dr. Shaha graduated magna cum laude from Brigham Young University, earning a degree in Neuroscience before enrolling at the University of Texas at Southwestern for Medical School. While there, Dr. Shaha earned membership in the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha society. After graduation, he completed his Orthopedic Surgery residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, HI. Dr. Shaha served five years on active duty in the U.S. Army, being stationed in Seoul, South Korea and Landstuhl, Germany. In 2019 he deployed to Afghanistan as the lone orthopedic surgeon in Kabul. Most recently, Dr. Shaha completed a Sports Medicine fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, AZ. During that time, he worked with numerous collegiate and professional sports teams in the Phoenix area including providing coverage for Arizona State University and the Arizona Coyotes of the NHL.
Dr. Shaha has been involved in research that has earned the O'Donoghue Award and the Hughston Award, the two highest research awards in Orthopedic Sports Medicine. His work on shoulder instability was also included as one of the 30 most influential studies in the first 50 years of The American Journal of Sports Medicine, the preeminent journal for Orthopedic Sports Medicine.
When not working, Dr. Shaha spends his free time with his wife, Erin, and their four daughters. They enjoy traveling, biking and skiing as a family. He also loves to run, having completed multiple marathons, including Boston, as well as a full-distance Ironman Triathlon. The Shaha family is excited to discover all that Alaska has to offer and to be part of an area with an amazing culture and community.
