Dr. Michael Montano is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon at Pioneer Peak Orthopedics in Wasilla, Alaska. Fellowship-trained in sports medicine, Dr. Montano specializes in advanced arthroscopic and minimally invasive procedures for the shoulder, knee, and hip. He is also a leader in robotic-assisted joint replacement and was the first to introduce MAKO robotic technology to Alaska—making him the most experienced MAKO joint replacement surgeon in the state.
With a lifelong passion for athletics and a strong connection to the sports world, Dr. Montano brings a unique perspective to orthopedic care. As a former NCAA Division I team captain and starting pitcher, he understands firsthand what it takes to recover, perform, and thrive. Since joining the Mat-Su Valley, Dr. Montano has quickly become a trusted name in orthopedic care. He was honored as one of Alaska’s Top Doctors by the International Association of Orthopedic Surgeons and featured in The Leading Physicians of the World. He also served as chairman of the 2017 William J. Mills III All Alaska Orthopedic Conference.
Outside the clinic, Dr. Montano and his wife, Katie—a nurse practitioner—live on a farm in Palmer and are active members of the local community. Together, they support area sports teams, serve as Palmer Active Soles Team Athletes, and stay involved in promoting health and wellness across the Mat-Su Valley.
